Simon Grey

Simon Grey

Hovering somewhere between syncopated rhythmic drive, rich analogue synth lines, hefty beats and lush jazz voicings, Simon Grey's musical style may be hard to pinpoint.

One thing is clear however, the Australian has been bent on expanding the musical realms of electronic and acoustic soul at all BPMs for some years now.

In 1999 Simon formed original live 13 piece groove outfit "Polyester" that in time would earn the reputation as "one of Australia's tightest groove outfits", leading to performances at outdoor events like the Australian Gatecrasher Summer Sound System in 2002.

It was here that the act attracted the attention of Soulfuric camp's John Julius Knight, who took time to collaborate with Simon at his "Nasty Audio" studio facilities.

2005/06 saw Simon come together with highly respected UK soul label Papa of Reel People fame, with his brand new full calorie broken disco epic "The Galactica Suite". Going from strength to strength in the UK and beyond, the track has quickly solidified Simon's important role in the finest of nu jazz/soul/house circles.

2007 has has been a big year for Simon as it sees the release of his past and present material in a new album package for Japan. Keep your eyes on this man in 2008 as a long awaited album is in the works and is set be the next step in Simon's sound.
